With background in photography, Jakob Johannsen has been exploring different functions of the medium photography. In several projects he has dealt with digital images from internet sources e.g. Google, bringing them into public space or site specific situations. He has translated digital codes into handmade processes, such as painting, tiling and paste glueing in interaction with architecture. Johannsen uses the square elements of tiles as language of the digital and as reference to early use of grids in ancient settlements. He sees in digital photo-media a system, embedded in a large complex of meta systems. Current works are expanding the focus on structures in media to social structures of norm and diversity.
